About Us

No Quarter Coffee was born out of my passions--for coffee, for homeroasting, for creation, and for exploration. I've loved coffee for decades, winding my way down the rabbit hole. Over the last two years, I have succumbed to the joys of home roasting--starting with thrift-store-purchased popcorn popper. One popper became two (then three and four). Next I needed control, so enter variacs and proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers. Somewhere along the line I stumbled across a coffee buying club. Shortly after helping someone break down three bags of Yirgacheffe into individual 10-15 pound shipments, I was cupping and sourcing beans for the club. Some friends suggested that I take this up more regularly after watching me distribute four tons of beans so far in 2008.

Green coffee sourcing is hard work, adventure, disappointment, exploration, and discovery. There's joy and excitement in finding a gem hiding away at the importers, or establishing relationships where importers are sharing their outstanding pre-arrival samples. To me, coffee is about connection and discovery--new flavors, new roasts, new blends, and new relationships. I hope to share my passion for coffee and for life with you. I am committed to provide you with unparalleled customer service along with new experiences and discoveries.

Why "No Quarter"?

As most of my friends and co-workers know, I've got a few pirate trinkets around. I also hold in high esteem those willing to buck the status quo to get results. The red flag of "No Quarter" meant no prisoners would be taken by marauding pirates. For us, it means we stand for something. We give no quarter to lousy quality, lousy service, lousy people, or lousy beans. It means we are responsible and accountable to our customers, our suppliers, our families, our country, and ourselves.
