The Hottop electric drum coffee roaster is designed for the home roaster looking for larger batch sizes than air roasters. It offers more control than most roasters, an external cooling cycle, and robust construction. The roaster behaves similar to a commercial machine; in fact, some professional roasters use the Hottop as a sample roaster. The roaster supports a notional batch size of 225-250g (8-9 oz.) of green coffee, but we've roasted as little as 200g and as much as 300g with good results.
The Hottop Model KN-8288P can support up to nine user-programmable, eight-segment roast profiles, including control of individual segment target temperature, segment time, and fan speed. The roaster allows for control of the active segment target temperature for finer control during the roast.
 | The KN-8828P's basic design includes the following:
- A large cooling tray with forced air cooling--beans are cooled within minutes
- A large glass viewing window allowing viewing of the beans during the roast
- Extremely quiet operation allowing easy to monitoring of 1st and 2nd crack sounds
- Stainless steel roasting drum and outer surfaces
- Replaceable filter to help remove particulate matter and lessen smoke production
- Nine user-programmable, eight-segment profiles

The KN-8288P is exactly the same roaster as the KN-8288B, except for the control panel. We have experience using both roasters--the "P" model allows for excellent repeatability on roast profiles, at the expense of manual control of the fan and heater during the roast. The "B" model allows precise control of fan and heater during the roast, but does not allow for building a profile in advance (it only saves completed roast profiles). Our best analogy is that the "P" is like a car with automatic transmission, and the "B" is a car with manual transmission. Both control systems produce excellent roasts. This page provides an excellent comparison of the two control panels.
